Transporting kitesurfing gear is one of the most painful parts of a trip: excess baggage fees, risk of damage, airport hassle. At Sakalava Bay, we rent out a fleet of recent gear, sized for the strong Varatraza wind.
Every set is checked and serviced after each session. You arrive, pick your kite size, and you are on the water within 20 minutes.

Renting gear at Sakalava
The Varatraza wind varies in strength and timing. That is great for progression, but it makes kite choice critical: most riders ride a 9 m², drop to a 7 m² above 30 knots and take out the 12 m² only on calmer days. Rental is for self-sufficient riders: you can launch alone, stay upwind and return to your starting point. Beginners and intermediate riders get more from combining an IKO private lesson with the gear included during training. The shallow, sandy-bottomed lagoon of Sakalava Bay makes learning especially safe.
Every set is rinsed, dried and checked after the session: lines, connections, valves and quick release. We pump up with you before departure and review the day's forecast. If the wind drops or a storm rolls in, the rental is rescheduled at no cost.

Free rental is reserved for confident self-sufficient riders comfortable in strong wind. Beginner? Combine a lesson with rental: we provide adapted gear for the duration of your training.
There is no standard kite size for every session. We help you choose based on measured wind, rider weight and ability, and the equipment being used.
Yes! Many riders use the rental to test different brands and models before investing. Contact us in advance to reserve your preferred test gear.
A deposit and ID are required when picking up the gear. Liability insurance covering water sports is recommended; we can point you to suitable cover before your trip.
