Lessons and progression

You do not need exceptional strength. The harness transfers much of the kite’s pull to your body, while your arms mainly steer the bar. General fitness and being able to swim are useful. Your instructor adapts the exercises to your level.

Safety and conditions at Sakalava

Kitesurfing involves risks from wind, water and equipment. Lessons teach you to assess conditions, control the kite, follow right-of-way rules and use safety systems. Your instructor chooses the practice area and exercises for the conditions; no water sport is risk-free.

There is no universal minimum age. A child’s weight, maturity, water confidence and available equipment all matter. Contact us before booking with the child’s age and approximate weight so we can check whether an adapted lesson is suitable.

Learning time depends on your sporting background, lesson frequency, conditions and progress. Waterstarting is one milestone; no fixed number of hours guarantees independent riding. The instructor adapts the plan to your level.

Equipment and trip planning

The equipment needed for the lesson is supplied according to the booking and availability: kite, bar, board and harness. Bring swimwear, a towel, sun protection and drinking water. Please confirm what is included when booking.

Yes. A trip can include several family members or a small group. Lessons are arranged around each person’s level and the conditions. Share everyone’s ages, approximate weights and experience so the plan can be discussed in advance.

The Varatraza usually blows from April to November, but wind is never guaranteed. Lessons are confirmed or adapted according to forecasts and observed conditions. Ask about the rescheduling or cancellation policy before booking.

Check with your insurer that your travel policy explicitly covers kitesurfing, medical care and, if needed, equipment damage. Cover varies by policy, so ask your insurer for written confirmation.
