Frequently Asked Questions
All the answers to clear your doubts before jumping in!
Absolutely not! This is the most common misconception. In kitesurfing, the kite power is held by your harness (attached around your waist), not your arms. Your arms are only used to steer the kite, like a car steering wheel. It is a sport of technique, not strength.
No, as long as you follow the safety rules. Modern kites feature quick-release systems that instantly cut all power in case of a problem. By learning with an IKO-certified instructor, you will learn to use these systems from your very first lesson.
There is no strict minimum age, but it depends more on the child weight. Generally, from 35-40 kg (around 10-12 years old), a child can start with adapted gear (small kites, small harness).
On average, expect between 9 and 12 hours of lessons (spread over 3 to 5 days) to successfully ride and become independent. With a private instructor and a flat lagoon like Sakalava, progression is often even faster.
